Moving On Jackie Pesal

Jack could see the front of the house still, because her fence was not complete. He walked along the barbed wire fence on the side of the house and got to a makeshift gate by her backyard, and entered the property to find their kitchen door open. They had Dutch doors-- where the bottom and the top sections were two separate pieces. The bottom half was closed, but through the open upper half, he saw Evelyn in the kitchen cleaning and drying the floor, and placing different containers to catch the rain that was entering the house through the gaps on the ceiling.

“Hi Evelyn!” Jack said softly so as not to scare her.

Evelyn looked up from what she was doing to see her friend completely soaked in the rain, outside her back door.

“Hey!” Evelyn smiled. “You chose a bad day to come visit.” She smiled again.

“You are not going to school anymore?” Jack

“I am, but not at that school.  My father lost his job and I lost my scholarship.” Evelyn

Jack - clearly disappointed.  “Do you know where you are going at this point?”

“I am not going anywhere as of now.  The public schools around here are at capacity.  I might get a chance to get in mid-year.  But, I will most likely repeat the year because there is no way I would have all the points necessary to graduate.”

The only thing constant, is Change.
